Mercer County is one of the great counties of Ohio. It’s known for its cross-tipped churches, its historical sites and landmarks, and for the farms which make up majority of the county. The reason I chose to do my photo essay on this topic is because this is where I grew up. This county made me who I am, and I want to share it with my fellow Ball State students.

Highlighted in red is Mercer County. It is located on the far west side of the state of Ohio.
Celina is the county's seat, which makes it home to Mercer County's courthouse. Celina is also home to the largest inland lake in the State of Ohio.

Grand Lake St. Marys was once the largest man-made lake in the world. On the West side of the lake is located, the Rotary lighthouse, one of three lighthouses to adorn the lake.

Another village in Mercer County that holds a historical waterway and landmarks is Fort Recovery.
The headwaters of the Wabash River begins in Fort Recovery.

This 100ft obelisk is a monument/crypt constructed for the remembrance and final resting spot of soldiers who died in "The Battle on the Banks of the Wabash" and "The Battle of Fort Recovery"

These forts are reconstruction of part of the original fort from 1794 which saved 250 U.S soldiers from 2500 Native American Warriors during the Battle of Fort Recovery.

Finally, the one aspect of Mercer County that it is most known for is it agriculture.
Mercer County has perfect farming conditions. Flat lands, dark rich soil, mild temperatures, and moderate rainfall. We are a part of the Midwest Corn Belt, which also makes a great area to raise livestock such as cows, hogs, chickens, and turkey.s
To you, she's just another county you're passing through to get somewhere, but to me, Mercer County is home. She is full of friends, family, hardworking people, and memories that will last a lifetime.
